PDLM in London 2009
Anglesey day was celebrated at the Houses of Parliament in London in March 2009. The event was organised my Albert Owen MP to promote the Isle of Anglesey. He said Anglesey has a lot to offer the rest of the United Kingdom and it is important especially at these difficult economic times to promote and celebrate the diversity of the island.
The aid of the day is to promote and celebrate Anglesey Mon Mam Cymru, the Mother of Wales in the mother of Parliaments, highlighting its traditions, its contribution to the UK, its assets and its future. Lords and MPs gathered to be entertained as the Welsh Dance team Parti Dawns Lan Mor of Holyhead sang and danced for them. Also with the team was 14 year old Natasha Floy who sang Y Rhosyn (the rose). The politicians also tasted chocolates, cheeses, wines and jams made by Island companies. This was followed by County Council chairman Cllr. Aled Morris Jones who spoke about the island's history.
Also attending the event were some of Anglesey's major employers, Stena Line, Wylfa and Coleg Menai. Representing the tourist industry were Menai Bridge Heritage Trust and Tre Ysgawen Hall. Gold Medal winning weight lifter Ray Williams who coaches the Wales and Holyhead weightlifting teams was also at the event with two of his award winning pupils.
Representative of the Federation of Small Businesses Henry Jordan who was also there said "Its been a good networking opportunity and hopefully this will raise the profile of Anglesey". The girls then went to No.10 Downing Street where they left a hamper for the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
