ANGLESEY ALUMINIUM METAL LIMITED  is a joint
venture of The RTZ Corporation PLC, and the UK based international mining and industrial company and Kaiser Aluminium and Chemical Corporation of America.
The Anglesey Plant, located on the outskirts of Holyhead and one of the largest employers in North Wales began producing aluminium in 1971 and has a current rated annual capacity of approximately 126,000 tonnes.
Alumina and coke ships berth at the company jetty in Holyhead harbour.  This jetty is linked by a series of conveyor belts passing through underground tunnels to the plant.  A spur rail link from the main Holyhead to London rail like runs into the Plant and is used for both receipt of raw materials and despatch of aluminium.
A  132kv poser line runs overhead and beneath ground
supplying A.C. power for rectification to D.C.  power, within the rectifier station on the plant.  The power source is from the National Grid via Wylfa Nuclear Power Station, 15 miles away.
Holyhead was selected as the site for an aluminium smelter
because it offered a deep water port and good road and rail
systems to processing  industries throughout the United Kingdom and the European Community
