Many local dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the new headmaster Mr. T. Hywel Thomas. It took 17 months to build the new school.

The ANCHOR is a symbol of safety and stability and Ysgol Llanfawr strives to ensure it is a safe and stable place for their pupils. Their aim is to provide a top class education for future citizens of Holyhead. Their aims are:-

4. To ensure equal opportunities for all pupils
5. To involve parents in the education of their children
6. To encourage the healthy physical and emotional development of children
7. To develop the children's understanding of their local area.
8. To provide an education that emphasises the importance of a bilingual society and develops their use and                understanding of Welsh language and culture.
