A new £95,000 school was opened in Holyhead on 14th November 1957. This school was called Llanfawr. The chairman of the local managers called upon the chairman of the Holyhead Free Church Council Reverend R. G. Hughes to offer a prayer of dedication at the ceremony. Then Mr. C.W.T. Pochin presented Sir Brian Robertson a key in a case to open the door for all to walk in. Following this was a meeting in the school, presided over by Mr. A. Ifan Jones. "Ye Holy Angels Bright", "Ar lay y mor" and "Cwyn Mam ynghyfraith" were amongst the hymns and songs sung. Sir Brian Robertson had been invited to formally open the school by the Anglesey Education Authority. In his speech he appealed for a half-holiday for the children (which was granted(. He said that he was primarily known as a great soldier who had rendered conspicuous and distinguished services to his country. He accepted the position of chairman of the British Transport Commission after relinquishing his military commands. It was in that capacity that he was in Holyhead on 14th November 1947. He felt honoured to be invited to open the school, especially when he learnt that the majority of the pupils were children of employees of the British Transport Commission and felt that the commission should therefore take a interest in the school. He said "We depend on the fathers of these young people of today as the railway has done for generations past - but particularly do we wish to keep going those family associations and connections. Attending such a fine school with such excellent facilities was not enough to ring knowledge. You must also work hard while you are here" CONTINUED .....
